The Writers Series – Autumn 2016 Roger Robinson & Nick Makoha
These two multi-talented international touring writers and artists will share their work and talk about what masculinity means to them and their creativity. Roger Robinson, born and raised in Trinidad, is an award-winning poet, short story writer, the lead singer of the band King Midas Sound, and a solo music artist. His latest album, about the Brixton riots, is Dis Side Ah Town (2015). His poetry books include The Butterfly Hotel, Suitcase, and Suckle, which won the People’s Poetry Prize. He has also toured several one-man shows including The Shadow Boxer. Poet and performer, Nick Makoha, fled Idi Amin’s Uganda as a child and was raised in Saudi Arabia, Kenya and the UK. He is the author of The Lost Collection of an Invisible Man and The Kingdom of Gravity. He is a Creative Entrepreneur at Goldsmith’s College and he won the Brunel University African Poetry Prize in 2015, open to African writers worldwide. He is also seasoned workshop leader and is currently touring his one man show, My Father and Other Superheroes.
